TARMAC
Tarmac driveways and pathways are as popular as ever with our residential customers, and our commercial customers turn to us for the installation of tarmac roadways, car parks, school playing fields and warehouse yards. Anything is possible, no matter if the project is large or small.
Tarmac is still a popular choice because of its durability,
cost-effectiveness, and the fact that it is virtually maintenance-free. If you already have a tarmac driveway that has seen better days, our team will be able to quickly and professionally repair it, so it is back to its former glory in no time.
As with all of our driveways, preparation is key to achieving the perfect tarmac finish. If the sub-base is inadequate and the drainage has not been considered, then problems will start to appear pretty quickly. We will discuss all of this when we meet with you to give you a quote. We have been working in the paving industry for over 30 years and have the knowledge and the know-how to build a tarmac driveway that will not only look good but last a lifetime.
Our tarmac driveways are installed in either black or red but if you prefer a different colour then speak to our experienced team, and we will advise you on what we can offer.
We do not require a deposit, our work is fully guaranteed, and we are fully insured with public liability insurance of £1m.
SUITABLE APPLICATIONS
We consider tarmac to be suitable for areas that will be used by vehicles, such as drives, car parks and forecourts, as well as sports surfaces such as tennis courts and playgrounds.
Careful consideration needs to be given as to whether it’s the right choice for your area you want to use it. An example is smaller areas; it’s not much more economical than block paving, and there are some downsides.
Petrol or oil spills can break down the top surface and then penetrate the lower layers. This process can’t be reversed and can only be fixed by patching, which is not often aesthetically pleasing.
You may also want to consider your neighbourhood. If there are no other tarmac driveways on your road, then it may look out of place. Still, if that’s not the case, and the other driveways fit in with the period of the property, or are predominantly block paved, then yours may look inferior and possibly make the house a little harder to sell.
We are also reluctant to use tarmac for a garden patio as it can get hot in summer and is not so pleasing on the eye when compared to other similarly priced options.
Correct Construction for a tarmac driveway or pathway
When preparing an area to be constructed, you have to consider it’s usage when calculating the necessary foundations. Construction varies depending on the use of the area to be resurfaced, and the sub base is of utmost importance. We always construct sub-bases to a minimum of 100mm for light use areas such as pathways, increasing to 150mm for a driveway and 225mm for a car park or access road. The sub-base is then followed by a binder course(s) and the surface course.
CGW always provide construction specifications for every project we undertake.
